Après avoir présenté leur duo pendant quatre années sur différentes scènes de jazz et de musique du monde, Alima Hamel et Vincent Ferrand œuvrent à sublimer leur répertoire en faisant appel au trio à cordes de l'Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, dont Vincent Ferrand signe les arrangements.

Après la sortie de leur album en mars 2024, le moment est venu de sublimer cette expression libre, sobre et intense par une magie sonore organique et majestueuse. S'impose l'idée de partager la scène avec un trio à cordes, ainsi que le désir de composer la nouvelle atmosphère qui enlacera le duo. By the Sket conçoit dès lors une collaboration pour créer une nouvelle équipe en quintet avec l'incrément substantiel d'une violoniste, d'un altiste et d'une violoncelliste, membres de l'éminent Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse. La composition, l'écriture des arrangements pour le trio à cordes réalisées par Vincent Ferrand est un voyage enchanté pour By the Sket qui, fort de la distinction alchimique et incantatoire de son expression en duo, ose des mondes musicaux où se confrontent pudeur, folie, délire, extase, émotions. Techniquement, le duo explore avec le trio à cordes les possibles de nuances, de timbres, de textures harmoniques et rythmiques. Vivre le tout comme une peinture, comme une scène précise dans laquelle la place de chacun est naturelle, dynamique et colorée.

La résidence a eu lieu au Centre culturel Henri Desbals les 18 et 19 décembre 2024.

Elle s'en est suivie de la première représentation de By the Sket Quintet le 20 décembre 2024.

Puis, de deux autres représentations : le 2 mars 2026 au Babel Music XP à Marseille et le 23 avril 2026 à la Pause Musicale à Toulouse.

Having performed as a duo for four years on various jazz and world music stages, Alima Hamel and Vincent Ferrand are now working to elevate their repertoire by collaborating with the string trio from the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, with arrangements by Vincent Ferrand. ‍

Following the release of their album in March 2024, the time has come to elevate this free, understated and intense expression through an organic and majestic sonic magic. The idea of sharing the stage with a string trio has taken hold, as has the desire to craft a new atmosphere that will envelop the duo. By the Sket therefore conceived a collaboration to form a new quintet, substantially expanded to include a violinist, a violist and a cellist, all members of the eminent Toulouse Chamber Orchestra. The composition and the arrangements for the string trio, written by Vincent Ferrand, are an enchanting journey for By the Sket, who, drawing on the alchemical and incantatory quality of their expression as a duo, venture into musical worlds where modesty, madness, delirium, ecstasy and emotions clash. Technically, the duo, together with the string trio, explores the possibilities of nuance, timbre, and harmonic and rhythmic textures. The whole experience is like a painting, like a precise scene in which each performer’s place is natural, dynamic and colourful.

The residency took place at the Henri Desbals Cultural Center on the 18th and 19th. December 2024. 

It was followed by the first performance of By the Sket Quintet on December 20, 2024. 

Followed by two further performances: on 2 March 2026 at Babel Music XP in Marseille and on 23 April 2026 at La Pause Musicale in Toulouse.
