L’idée du projet est née de son envie de mettre en lumière l’histoire d’une femme qui a fait entendre la voix des Sénégalaises, une femme qui a refusé le silence. Celle qui porte ce récit et donne son nom au spectacle : Korka Dieng.
Baye Cheikh Mbaye a réuni des musiciens aux univers complémentaires pour accompagner ses percussions : Soufiane Benkacimi à la batterie, dont le jeu mêle influences tribales et africaines à des grooves profonds ; Smaïn Merad aux claviers, avec un style ouvert allant notamment vers le jazz et Maïeul Clairefond à la basse, qui apporte des lignes mélodiques sensibles et engagées.
Le spectacle prend pleinement forme grâce à la voix de Korka Dieng, qui nous partage son héritage musical et son parcours. À travers son chant, elle raconte son histoire, l’impact qu’elle a eu auprès des femmes qui l’écoutaient, les réticences de son père Safihou Dieng — musicien lui aussi — face à un milieu majoritairement masculin, et son chemin jusqu’à devenir son héritière et la première femme à chanter au sein de l’Orchestra Baobab.
Ce projet réunit cinq musiciens autour d’un récit fort, transformé en une création musicale libre, vivante et généreuse.

The idea of the project was born from his desire to highlight the story of a woman who made the voice of Senegalese women heard, a woman who refused silence. The one who carries this story and gives her name to the show: Korka Dieng.
Baye Cheikh Mbaye has brought together musicians from complementary backgrounds to accompany her percussions: Soufiane Benkacimi on drums, whose playing blends tribal and African influences with deep grooves; Smaïn Merad on keyboards, with an open style going notably towards jazz and Maïeul Clairefond on bass, who brings sensitive and committed melodic lines.
The show takes full shape thanks to the voice of Korka Dieng, who shares his musical heritage and his background. Through her singing, she tells her story, the impact she had on the women who listened to her, and the reluctance of her father Safihou Dieng—also a musician—in a predominantly male environment, and her journey to become her heir and the first woman to sing within the Baobab Orchestra.
This project brings together five musicians around a strong narrative, transformed into a free musical creation, lively and generous.
